The Tatra Top GTX copes with all types of conditions, including marshes and bogs – no matter how foul the weather gets. The Vibram® sole ensure good grip and traction, including on roots and rocky terrain. Thanks to its reduced-seams construction and GORE-TEX membrane, it will keep out deep puddles and mud. In addition, the high upper supports the ankle – ideal for demanding trekking tours with a heavier pack.
Recommended Products for Maintenance: Nikwax Nubuck & Suede or Cream Wax
I normally wear a size 8.5, but as these are built narrower than other boots I sized up to a size 9. They have been a fantastic boot so far and wear much lighter than they look. Flexible while supportive, great for tough hikes. Good out-of-the-box comfort for my foot shape. I've done about 15km of rucking (50lb pack) over various terrain with them with no hot spots or issues. Been through heavy rain and stomped in puddles, and my feet were kept dry.
There was a learning curve to lacing them to find the perfect balance for me, but that's about the same with any boot.
Ankle support is great and i'm pretty sure it has saved my ankles a couple times. Lugs are aggressive and grip well, even on slippery mud and various inclined and challenging terrain. I did find it slippery on wet wooden bridges, but that would be the same for most other soles on the market.
Only thing I can count as a minor negative is that these boots can run hot. Hiking in 20+ weather will get your feet sweaty and while goretex helps them breathe, the leather outer will mean it's significantly less airy than a fabric boot.
Overall i'm very happy with the purchase, boots seem rock solid and i'm confident they'll last many years. Track 'N Trail team was very helpful with sizing, fitting, and options (both locations).
